Liz Lopez has been the Artistic Director for the New
Mexico Women’s Chorus since the Fall of 2005, after a year of
being an Assistant Director. In addition to singing with the
NMWC for the past five years, she has also composed and
arranged music for the chorus. One of her compositions, “To
Life,” was performed at the International GALA VII Festival in
Montreal July 2004. Liz has directed numerous small church
choruses in both New Mexico and Texas, and we are
delighted to have her with us.
Our Director
Both before and after receiving her doctorate in Fine Arts in
Piano Performance at Texas Tech University, Matalie
Wham has pursued a career as private teacher and
freelance ensemble pianist in Albuquerque. While working on
Music degrees in Piano at the University of New Mexico, she
accompanied the University choirs for three years and has
accompanied the New Mexico All-State choirs for six years in
addition to serving as rehearsal pianist for Opera Southwest.
Currently she is the music director at New Life Presbyterian
Church and accompanies choirs at Sandia High School.
Beyond her work with vocal groups Matalie maintains a
passion for solo piano improvisation and piano literature of
the early twentieth century. The NMWC is thrilled to have her
as our accompanist.

OUR CO-DIRECTOR
Carol Wolvington graduated from the University of
Iowa with a degree in Music Education in 1972. She then
taught public school music in Iowa between 1976 and 1978
and is a former public school band director in Goose Lake,
IA. Carol has taught private instrumental music lessons over
the years, but more recently she has become involved in
choral music. Not only is she an alto in the Chancel Choir at
First Congregational Church (where she also chairs the
Congregational Life Committee) here in Albuquerque, New
Mexico, she also sings with the New Mexico Women's Chorus
which she joined in 2004. During the summer of 2006, she
became the Chorus's new Associate Director. In addition,
she currently performs improvisational music with celtic
harpist Alana Woods, playing the alto flute, C flute and penny
whistle. Although her first love has always been music, she
now supports herself as a clinical social worker - helping
children and their families.
