New Mexico Women's Chorus
"Singing For Our Lives"
Liz Lopez has been the Artistic
Director for the New Mexico Women’s Chorus
since the Fall of 2005, after a year of being an
Assistant Director.  In addition to singing with
NMWC for the past five years, she has also
composed and arranged music for the chorus.  
One of her compositions, “To Life,” was
performed at the  International GALA VII
Festival in Montreal July 2004.  Another, "This
Village" was premiered at GALA VIII in Miami.
Liz has directed numerous small church
choruses in both New Mexico and Texas, and
we are delighted to have her with us.
And she plays the guitar too!
Matalie Wham has pursued a career as
private teacher and freelance ensemble
pianist in Albuquerque.  While working on
Music degrees in Piano at the University of
New Mexico, she accompanied the
University choirs for three years and has
accompanied the New Mexico All-State
choirs for six years in addition to serving as
rehearsal pianist for Opera Southwest.  
Currently she is the music director at New
Life Presbyterian Church and accompanies
choirs at Sandia High School. Beyond her
work with vocal groups Matalie maintains a
passion for solo piano improvisation and
piano literature of the early twentieth
century. NMWC is thrilled to have her as our
accompanist.

Chandra Blackston received both her
Bachelor's and Master's in Music Education
for Northwestern State University of
Louisiana. In addition to being an Assistant
Director for NMWC, Chan's many professional
credits include clinician, adjudicator and
guest conductor with New Mexico, Texas,
and Lousiana school sites and district levels.  
First coming to New Mexico as the Assistant
Director of bands at Los Alamos High School,
Chan is now teaching instrumental music at
Lincoln Middle School in the Rio Rancho
Public Schools system.  She also hold
membership in the National Band
Association, and the New Mexico Music
Educators Association.  We are thrilled to
have her with us!
Sandra Keene is starting her second
season with NMWC as an Assistant
Director. Hailing originally from Michigan,
she came to New Mexico in 1968, as a
choir director at St. Mary's School in
Belen. Earning her Bachelor of Music at
UNM, she began teaching in the Los Lunas
School system, and then retired fro the
Albuquerque School System.  She has
over 40 years choral directing experience
from elementary school age to the
Enchanted Mesa Chapter of the Sweet
Adelaines.  She is  a member of Sigma
Alpha Iota, Music Educator's National
Conference, NM Music Educator's
Association, American Choral Director's
Association, Modern Music Masters,
National and NM Education Associations,
American Orff-Schulwerk Association,
and the NM Chapter AOSA.  We are
pleased to have her as a part of us!
