First Published in 1928, this folk song celebrated the many factual and mythological elements of the Underground Railroad, and “Peg Leg Joe” thought to have been an early conspirator in efforts to help fugitive slaves escape their bondage. The piece is a staple in many choral faith and community-based choral groups over the last century.
